Why Vitest + Playwright crush the old guard of test automation"

Test automation can sometimes feel like climbing a high mountain. Without the right gear, reaching the summit becomes nearly impossible. Playwright and Vitest are modern frameworks that help teams handle even the most unpredictable conditions found in typical IT projects.

In this talk, I'll show how to harness the synergy between these two tools to automate testing of web applications across all levels of the testing pyramid. I'll also touch on whether the pyramid model is still relevant today. Playwright is a highly versatile tool for End-to-End and API testing, while Vitest is an ultra-fast framework for unit and integration tests.

The goal of this session is to highlight the impact of tool selection on test automation efficiency, accelerate adoption and promote clean, maintainable code.

Why Leaving Cypress Took Us More Than a Year – and What You Can Learn From Our Mistakes: A Case Study

At the beginning of 2023, at Displate, we made a decision: „we are leaving Cypress as our main automation tool!"
This decision seemed simple, but it's now May 2025, and the process is still ongoing — with more than 70% of our tests still in Cypress.
So what went wrong?

I'll start with what led us to change:
We encountered many issues with Cypress — none were critical on their own, but together they added up to a death by a thousand cuts.
High maintenance costs, a different testing philosophy, lack of trust in the Cypress.io maintainers, and many other factors that I'll discuss during the presentation.

At for framework change...
at first glance, changing a framework seems like a straightforward technical decision.
But in reality, it's a huge operation full of traps, dilemmas, and unexpected challenges.

During the presentation, we will cover:
– How we convinced the organization to change the automation tool
– What happened that made the first months of migration a nightmare
– How we chose a replacement — and what mistakes we made in the process
– And why simply rewriting tests is not enough

This presentation will show you what _not_ to do when changing frameworks.
